Song Lyrics || The Bad & The Ugly

Hello lovelies,
I just wanted to write a post about two songs which I find completely demeaning in their approach to sex... WOAH! I bet your all thinking what a raunchy lady Charley is, however you would be sadly mistaken. These songs approach sex in a very 'rapey' way which is extremely derogatory to women, don't believe me? Allow me to expand.

Song 1- Timber ft. Ke$ha by Pitbull
The first verse jumps straight into derogatory, perverted word vomit, not only is it lyrically lacking any substance it is just vile.

"The bigger they are, the harder they fall
These big-iddy boys are dig-gidy dogs
I have 'em like Miley Cyrus, clothes off
Twerking in their bras and thongs, timber
Face down, booty up, timber
That's the way we like to–what?–timber
I'm slicker than an oil spill
She say she won't, but I bet she will, timber"

Pitbull likes his women in their underwear twerking? They must have such substance and depth to them in your eyes for that to be your favourite thing about them.
The last two lines really had me on edge, I mean if that doesn't spell out 'I will rape you on your way out of the club' I don't know what does.
The rest of the song contains the incessant repetition of the word 'timber' and the stupid chorus that has nothing to do with anything.

Song 2- Blurred Lines ft. T.I. and Pharrell Williams by Robin Thicke
I don't even think I need to explain this song and why I despise it, but one point I will not hesitate to add is Robin Thicke's wife has separated from him post the rape controversy surrounding the song which he claims to have written about her.
Lets start with the name... THERE ARE NO BLURRED LINES WHEN IT COMES TO WHAT IS AND WHAT ISNT RAPE.

Now the chorus is an absolute joke...
And that's why I'm gon' take a good girl
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
You're a good girl
Can't let it get past me
You're far from plastic
Talk about getting blasted
I hate these blurred lines
I know you want it
I know you want it
I know you want it
But you're a good girl
The way you grab me
Must wanna get nasty
Go ahead, get at me

Maybe Robin, this girl actually doesn't find you irresistible and isn't just there to sleep with you? The vamity of it all?

I mean it's almost unbearable
In a hundred years not dare, would I
Pull a Pharside let you pass me by

Now this girl isn't allowed to leave unless she sleeps with him?
This song is just awful, the fact that young children sing it and don't even realise what they're saying really scares me, we should not allow this kind of sexualisation to ever get the recognition Blurred Lines recieved. There's a reason it didn't win any awards for song of the year, people knew the meaning and instantly felt unsettled about giving it such a prestigious title.

~END OF RANT~

I will leave you with this quote;
'Feminism is the radical notion that women are equal to men.' - Cheris Kramarae

    1. It's literally a disgrace! In the original video all the women were naked as well, talk about degrading! I can't even cope with the sexism of it all, it's the twenty first century for Christ's sake!!
At least someone else feels as strongly as I do about the whole business..
